A Strange Tableaux

When I was visiting Trenton in May, I came across this strange diorama in an estate sale store on Broad Street, not far from Holy Angels church. Whoever made it put a lot of care into it, but I have no idea why. Had it been a dollhouse? An idealized version of a prepubescent girl’s bedroom? A hobby that got out of control? It seems to exemplify all sorts of bad taste, but there’s also something wistful about it, too. I might have wanted a room like this when I was 10 years old.

I don’t see what is so strange about this diorama.
You should not get people’s hopes built up like that, just to show them a lackluster diorama.

Now a Pottery Barn diorama, inhabited by tiny rats, that would be strange.

Especially if you could make out the detail of what they were serving for dinner.
