A Dozen Dinosaurs
A Dozen Dinosaurs (McGraw Hill Book Co., 1967 ) was one of my favorite books as a wee one, and I still have it. Humorist Richard Armour took a selection of dinosaurs and wrote simple poems about them, accompanied by three-toned illustrations by Paul Galdone that are cartoon-like in the dinosaur’s expressions, but accurate according to [...]

A Long-Lost Painting Comes to Light
I painted this picture in the early 1980s in my art school days. Alex called it a road with potatoes. What do you think it is?
Answer (highlight to see):
It’s a pointillist depiction of a basket of dried beans in a Caribbean market, with two spotted handkerchiefs.
I didn’t take this painting with me when I [...]

Omar
This stray, who I’ve taken the liberty of naming Omar, has been coming around for two years now. He has a big head, small ears, long tawny hair, and saucer-shaped feet which makes me wonder if some ancestor of his was a bobcat. One day last summer he showed up shaved completely but for his [...]

One Fat Baby
My dad honed his photography skills taking pictures of family members, often spontaneously, and came up with some interesting personality portraits. This one is of his older half-sister Mildred Farrel. She looks to be in her mid 50s here and is wearing one of those tight, abstractedly printed go-everywhere shirtwaist dresses that were popular c. 1959. She [...]

Pixie-Boy
This is one of those photo mysteries. I believe it was taken in the 1960s, in Hawaii, going by the boy’s sweatshirt, and that the writing is similar to my cousin Joan’s or Barbara’s. But who is it? My brother Kurt Warner, who lived there for a year at the time? My cousin Frank Delgaudio? Or [...]

Exciting Times at KDW
The good news is I finally got my scanner hooked up to my Mac. Actually it’s an old scanner from 2000 that I bought used at a Mac swap meet, but it’s new to me, and works great. So look for lots more great pics in the future!

Kookabura
Ordinarily I don’t think that much about Australia. But when I saw this scarf I knew I had to have it.
It’s not silk or anything — just polyester. But I like collecting fabric souveniers such from other countries, and this certainly fit the bill. Not only does it give a basic topographical reference, but also native animals [...]

Chiqui Stardust
I frequent several chat boards, and to amuse myself, I make icons of the cats posing as contemporary personalities. Here Chiqui poses as David Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust days and Bjork. If you want to use these, please do!

How to Make Pickled Pig’s Feet
When I was a little kid growing up in Trenton I remember seeing pickled pig’s feet on the shelves of the local grocery store. The Acme at the end of Lalor St., specifically. I can’t recall if they were in the deli, or in the soul food or Puerto Rican food sections, but they were definately [...]

How to Grow the Best Tomatoes
May is here, so, in NJ family tradition, all interest turns toward… tomatoes!
Some people think you can just dig up a piece of ground and put the plants in. Not so! Tomatoes require a lot of preparation to yield their best. These are the steps I use in my climate, where the growing season is [...]
