From the Battle Monument
This slide was in a cartridge labled 1973, and the slide itself had written on it “from the Battle Monument”. But looking at the cars, I seem to think it’s a little older than that.

Name That Castle!
This is a castle in Germany. I think. It was taken on our trip to Europe in 1970. I really like this picture. It’s almost gloomy, yet has the strength to withstand the gloom. The torches in the great hall will soon be lit, and the celebration will begin!

Red Fox Shoes
My friend Elizabeth called me one day and told me of some fabulous shoe she had seen in the local Value Village (a thrift store) describing them as “Italian, with little angels or cherubs on them.” I checked the store out a few days later and did not see any cherub shoes, but found this [...]

The Day the Fruit Market Burned Down
I am not sure why this event was considered worthy to preserve for posterity but it was. The time was the mid-1970s on a hazy winter afternoon, perhaps a Sunday. The building was a ramshackle, unheated structure that sold fish once upon a time, and later produce; it was across the street from my house on [...]

Old Man Lalor Had a Farm
Growing up in Trenton, we lived in the middle of a rich and dramatic history and didn’t know it. Or maybe we did know it, and just were not impressed with it; it is only with time and hindsight that we can look back and see how interesting it really was.

Lahaina
The day after I got back from NJ, Violet and I took the SuperFerry to Maui. We stayed here, at the Pioneer Inn in Lahaina, for 2 nights. It was the perfect way to relax! This is the lanai of our room, overlooking the pool. That’s Violet with the earbuds.

Avid Reader
Grandmom Karpinski reads the daily news — probably the Trenton Times — in her favorite chair. The date on the pic is 1950, which would make her 60, but she seems older than that because she is hunching. She wears a thin headband and dark nylons with white anklets and white lace-up oxfords, interesting fashion for the [...]

Holding the Light
This is Barnegat Lighthouse. I am trying to pose so that it looks like I am holding up the lighthouse. I am failing.
Little Joan is trying to imitate me, and failing also.

Joan in 1969
I like this picture of Joan taken in 1969. The cartridge says it’s Watkins Glen. I guess it was a museum or gallery , but they actually must have let people touch the exibits! My how times have changed
