Afternoon at Pokai Bay
Usually we go to Pokai Bay to do some SUP (stand up paddling) in the morning, when the water is calm and there’s no wind. But we went in the afternoon one day last week. The mountain was beautiful at that time of day!

Rainy Day
We took our traditional end-of-Summer circle island drive last week. It rained on the windward side, but it just made for a much nicer picture!

Deli Delight
Who says one can’t get a decent pastrami on rye NYC deli sandwich in Seattle?
Every time I have business downtown I visit Pike Place Market, and I eat at a different place each time. This place was a tiny stall by the newstand called NY deli that also had knishes, bagels, and herring salad. They [...]

Red Sun
A week ago the sky was particularly hazy here, and so when the sun set, it became a spectacular peachy-orange color. I tried to capture it in this pic from my cell phone. It looked like a dying sun from a far-off star system. I remember the sun looking like this in NJ in hot, [...]

Haleiwa Farmers’ Market
It was a cross between a swap meet and an open market. We got fresh bananas and a papaya, plus tank tops and a pair of earrings. Violet especially liked the crepe with bananas, strawberries and nutella.

The Southern Sky
Larger version is here
For the longest time the Dittrich house had displayed this poster from a 1970 National Geographic magazine showing on one side the stars of the Northern hemisphere, and on the other, the Southern. Since we lived in the mid-Atlantic states only the Northern hemisphere was shown. When I found the same poster [...]
