I’ve just started looking into Polish history because of a cookbook I received as a gift for Christmas.  I cam across this picture while looking up Boleslaus the Wrymouth on line.  I like the picture a lot, very colorful.  But the name, Boleslaus the Wrymouth, really intrigued me.  I can’t help wonder if he is a distant ancestor, or are we all sort of wry in the mouth..?

The elderly recluse never left her estate. Accompanied by her eldest man-child, faithful servants, and youthful heir, she wheeled herself around her vast gardens inspecting the water lilies.

The ever-flowing Eye of the Citadel was the source of her vitality. But when the waters dried up, so did she.

A nice portrait of Grandpop Karpinski. He has a dignity here, and a sort of skepticism, or perhaps resignedness. (Polish families are traditionally dominated by women, and he must have been tired of it all by then.) He does seem like a steely personality still, belonging to another era. Looking at this, I seem to be aging in the same way.

It’s Summertime.  No one is at the planetarium.  Hardly anyone is on the Fitch Way.  And State Street looks positively bucolic..!

This is the flip side of the postcard.  Did Aunt Virginia’s pen suddenly run out of ink?  Did she have to go look for my address, and then got sidetracked, and when she finally came back, couldn’t find the same blue pen?

And I love the “A. Virginia”.  We had taken a Polish class together at MCCC one semester.  I loved calling her Ciocia

I don’t  know if this picture of Aunt Jane has been posted on KDW already, but it certainly deserves a replay!  Who made this outfit?  The little glimmers on the shoulder are a nice touch, but probably just a reflection of the flash from the camera.  If I made this today, I would install some sort of lights anyway!

Joan was always Aunt Jane’s favorite.  Aunt Jane looks much better here with her natural hair and more youthful clothing, while Joan is of a piece with her era.

Aunt Jane was very proud of her new wig in this pic taken in 1970. However, I don’t think she fooled anybody, then or now.

I am assuming that unopened  bottle of Seagram’s 7 was Grandpop’s birthday present that year?

This was taken when we lived on Ewa Beach Rd.  Aunt Lottie always had a towel around her neck and/or an ice bag clutched to her bosom.  Otherwise she looks quite dressed up here.  Violet has a cute aloha print dress on, and has the original Bear in her hand.
